  • Safe Routes for Tuesday 12th

    Mon 11 Dec 2017

In order to keep all staff and pupils safe the caretaker has cleared and gritted two main routes into School.

In order to access school tomorrow all juniors must use the main gate and then go in the main door near Mrs Reardon’s office. This will also be the route for breakfast club.

Infants must all access the school through the back gate behind nursery and go in through the nursery. The sides gates onto the Infant yard will not be open.

The yards will be closed tomorrow as they are still very icy and will freeze overnight. Hopefully by the end of the day they may have cleared. If not pupils will need to be collected from the same safe routes.

The caretaker will will also grit a route between buildings so that Infants can get to the Hall for their concert and the canteen for lunch.

    Many thanks for your cooperation.

  • Nursery Concert

  • Will school be open or closed on Monday 11th December?

    Sun 10 Dec 2017

I'm sure many of you, having seen the weather are wondering whether school will be open tomorrow.

We will post on this website by 7.30am at the latest as soon as a decision has been made.

The final decision is made by the Headteacher, together with the Chair of Governors and the Caretaker.

There are lots of things taken into account before deciding whether it is safe to open.

    • The first thing we always consider is safety. We have to decide if the school site is safe for both children and staff and that the building is warm enough with the heating working properly. The caretaker notifies the Head about this as soon as possible on the day in question.
    • Secondly, we have to consider if staff can get to school. There can be a situation where the site in Cwmcarn is safe and the building is warm, but not enough staff can get to school to supervise the children. At Cwmcarn we have teachers who live in Bargoed, Cardiff, Aberdare, Cwmbran Newport etc We need to make sure staff can get to school safely in order to open. We would not expect staff to make any dangerous journeys.
    • Thirdly we take advice from the local authority on the likelihood of more snow during the school day and what advice they have had regarding safety.

School closure is never a decision taken lightly, but we must put children and staff safety first.

  • Kindess at Christmas

Fri 08 Dec 2017 Mrs Robbins

As a school we have decided to spread some kindness at Christmas. These lovely ideas have come from our children.

KS2 will be bringing in things to help the homeless and FP will be collecting 5p and 10p to buy pens and pencils for children in our link school in Uganda. All the pupils have had a letter about this and the letters have been saved on our website.

Please note that both these initiatives are voluntary so please don't feel like you have to donate. We just thought it would be lovely to follow up on our children's ideas.
