    Mon 30 Jan 2023

    Morning all,

Just a reminder that school is not open to pupils on Wednesday of this week.

Also to give you plenty of notice, the week after half term there will be two non uniform days.

March 1st will be Eisteddfod when children can wear Welsh clothes, kits, uniforms or something red.

We will also be dressing up on March 2nd for ‘ World Book Day’ as a character from any book of your choice.

    Have a great week everyone!

  • Message from The Local Authority

    Wed 25 Jan 2023

    Good morning,

I have been asked to share the message below with you from the LA.

As you will see, I have already shared the dates below with you on the newsletter and let you know that nearly all of our school staff belong to the NEU therefore it was likely we would not be open to pupils on the strike days.

I can confirm now that we will be closed to pupils on all strike days.

    Kindest regards,
    Mrs Robbins

    Letter from the LA:

    Dear Parent / Carer,

You may be aware from recent media coverage that some schools across Wales may be affected on key dates over the coming weeks due to industrial action involving Education Trade Unions.

Members of the National Education Union (NEU) are expected to strike on the following dates:

    • Wednesday 1st February
    • Tuesday 14th February
    • Wednesday 15th March
    • Thursday 16th March

It is not clear at the moment which schools within the Caerphilly county borough will be closed on these dates. Head Teachers need to undertake detailed risk assessment to understand the impact that any industrial action will have on the ability to operate the school safely with reduced numbers of staff.

We fully appreciate that you will be keen to know as early as possible about any closures and all schools will endeavor to provide an update as soon as possible over the coming days.

As you can appreciate, schools can only operate if there are appropriate levels of staff available to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all pupils. Head Teachers are currently trying to establish the number of staff who may be available on these dates and decisions will be made based on these assessments.

Please keep an eye out for updates sent via your usual school communication channels.

Thank you for your ongoing patience and understanding in this matter.

    Keri Cole
    Chief Education Officer

  • Grandparent Reading Sessions

    Tue 24 Jan 2023

    Afternoon all,

Just a gentle reminder from me that as per the newsletter we’d really like to get grandparent reading sessions up and running again on a Friday afternoon.

Sadly out of our 230+ learners we have only had one grandparent come forward. We would need at least 5 to run the programme.

Please can you have another chat with families and let the office know if you can help us with this project.

    Many thanks,

    Mrs Robbins

  • January 2023 Spring Term Newsletter

    Thu 19 Jan 2023

    Good afternoon all,

We have prepared a newsletter which will be coming home to you today or tomorrow. The newsletter can be accessed on the Newsletter section of the website.  It has lots of helpful information and dates.

You may be aware from the news that there are planned strikes ( 4 days in total) for teaching staff and support staff in Wales.

We have included the strike dates on the newsletter. I have done this to try to give you time to plan childcare as nearly all of our staff are in the unions calling their members to strike. This is a National dispute between the unions and the Government.

As soon as I know anymore regarding the strikes and if they will definitely go ahead I will let you know, but I think it’s highly likely they will. We know this is an inconvenience to parents/carers but hope with this advance notice you can make plans.

    Kindest regards,

    Mrs Robbins
