    Morning all,

I'm in school this morning doing some final checks.  Our team has been working hard on all the floor markings over the last two days, particularly Mr Jones our caretaker.

I've added some more photographs which you can show the children if you would like to.  The yellow boxes around staff desks show the distance children should leave when talking to their teacher.

    Its been a busy week!

    Mrs Robbins

  • Hero Alert!!

    Wed 24 Jun 2020

One of our pupils in Year three has completed a rowing challenge to acknowledge Juneteenth day.  He had to row over 1900m on a Concept2 rowing machine.  Donations were sent to non-profit organisations that seek to make an impact on the systemic racism present in our society that we're sure you're aware of in the recent news.

He is currently the youngest person on the board in the World...The nearest person is 11 years old.

We would just like to say how proud we are of him for standing up to something very important and working hard to become a good citizen.

  • Information on Children Returning to School

    Mon 22 Jun 2020

We have had lots of messages asking for more information regarding the children returning to school next week.  Lots of parents have asked similar questions in regard to things like lunch, where to drop children off and what they need to wear.  Please head to ClassDojo for an information sheet compiled by Mrs Reid, which should answer most of your questions.

If you have a question which hasn't been answered by the information sheet please send a message to your child's class teacher or Mrs Robbins and we will try to answer them.

Please bear with us over the next couple of weeks as we try to iron out any issues which may arise, it will be a learning curve for all of us.

  • Update From Mrs Robbins

    Mon 22 Jun 2020

    Good Afternoon,

We are still working hard to get school ready.  Lines have been painted now near all the gates so that the six children being dropped off and collected know how to wait safely with you.  Our classrooms have been deep cleaned and reorganised and we have created lots of hand washing and sanitising areas.  We are waiting for the final deliveries to come in with the rest of our signs and bins at the end of the week.

One of the teachers, Mrs Reid, has been compiling some answers to frequently asked questions which we hope to share later today or tomorrow, so please keep an eye on here and ClassDojo.

    Many Thanks

    Mrs Robbins

    Fri 19 Jun 2020

    Afternoon all,

Please see the message below from Caerphilly Council.  The short version is when we open on 29th June it will now be for 3 weeks not 4.  Please be assured that all staff at Cwmcarn were prepared and ready to work for 4 weeks but this decision has been taken out of our hands.

    Thank you

    Mrs Robbins

    CCBC confirms return to school arrangements;

The leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council has confirmed that schools across the area will reopen to pupils on Monday 29th June for a period of three weeks before the start of the main summer holidays on Friday 17th July.

Cllr Philippa Marsden said, "The original proposal was for pupils to return for a period of four weeks, however, after extended discussions we have concluded that our schools will now open for 3 weeks and close for the summer holidays on 17th July".

"We are taking a consistent approach across Gwent and I very much welcome this opportunity for pupils to check in and catch up before the summer break.  Our priority is to safeguard the health and wellbeing of pupils and staff, as well as ensuring learning can resume as quickly and safely as possible".

Schools across the county borough will open their doors on Monday 29th June for pupils to return on a phased basis.  Year groups will be split into cohorts with staggered starts, lessons and breaks.  This means that, at most, around a third of pupils will be present in the classroom at any one time, although individual schools may need time to reach this level of operation.

CCBC has been successfully running a number of childcare hubs in many of its schools throughout the outbreak, so staff have significant experience of working within these new conditions and limitations and are well placed to provide safe, well managed learning environments.

Cllr Barbara Jones, CCBC Cabinet Member for Education added, "We would like to assure the whole community that all appropriate steps will be taken to safeguard pupils and this will remain our key priority".

"Everyone involved in reopening schools has been working extremely hard and we are sure that the children attending school for the three weeks will have an enjoyable, productive and worthwhile experience that will help as many as possible to check in, catch up and prepare for September".

The Welsh Government has published guidance to support schools, as well as further and higher education institutions.  This includes information on managing their facilities and logistical arrangements, including buildings, resources, cleaning and transport.

    Thu 18 Jun 2020

    Morning all,

Caerphilly have written a letter to all parents / carers which can be found on ClassDojo.  Hopefully there should be no new info on there as i have tried as much as possible to keep you up to date.

Either today or tomorrow, if you have decided to send your child back to school, you should get a private message from the teacher telling you which day your child has been given and a reminder of times.

All teachers have begun the work on stripping their classrooms back and I will be in school again tomorrow working on more health and safety issues.

I have to say a huge thank you to all my staff who are working so hard behind the scenes to prepare for June 29th.

    Many thanks,

    Mrs Robbins

    Thu 11 Jun 2020

The guidance from the Welsh Government was released yesterday so I am meeting my leadership team today (virtually!) and Governors this evening.

All being well I will share the detailed plan with you tomorrow regarding returning to school.

I will then ask you to take the weekend, all of you who are undecided, and let us know by Monday 15th June, a definite answer on whether you plan to send your child to school for the last 4 weeks.

This then gives us two weeks to make the groupings, arrange classrooms, organise our childcare hub and contact you to let you know which day and times your children will be offered.

    Thank you for your patience.
