  • Harvest Festival

    Mon 29 Sep 2025

    Afternoon all,

It is our Harvest Festival next Monday for all of the children. They will all have the opportunity to go to the Church across the road and celebrate this lovely festival.

This year we are collecting donations for our local food pantry so would appreciate donations of any kinds of foods that can be stored and won't go off. Examples included tins, packets of pasta, rice, cous cous, biscuits, snacks, bottle of soft drink. We will use the donations to make a lovely display in the Church for our celebrations and then they will be donated.

These can be brought in from tomorrow, right up until next Monday morning.

Many thanks for your support with this,

    Mrs Beard-Robbins

  • Nasal Flu Vaccine - 17th October 2025

    Thu 25 Sep 2025

    Dear Parent/Guardian,

The School Nursing Service will visit the school to offer pupils a nasal flu spray vaccine on 17/10/2025

The NHS recommends that your child has a flu vaccination every year.

It’s very important to protect your child from flu to make sure they stay as healthy as possible. The best flu vaccine for most children is a nasal spray. This is the vaccine that will be given on the day.

The online consent form and additional information can be found here: https://linktr.ee/schoolfluab

To help make sure the vaccine is suitable for your child, and they don’t miss out, please take time to read the information and follow the link to complete the electronic consent form as soon as possible, before the planned vaccination date.

The nose spray flu vaccine that contains porcine gelatine is the best protection against flu for children. If you want to have your child protected against Flu, but you do not want them to have the nose spray, you can request the gelatine free injection instead on the consent form and you will be invited to a clinic. If your child attends a NEWPORT SECONDARY SCHOOL they will receive their vaccine in school.

Should you have any difficulties accessing the above link, please contact 01633 431685 for further support.

  • Crazy Hair / Hat Day

    Thu 25 Sep 2025

    Morning all,

Don’t forget tomorrow is crazy hair day with a £1 donation to school.

The children still need to wear uniform but they can have any crazy hair style they like.
Messy hair, ribbons, clips, sprayed hair, gel hair, head bands, , crazy hats or even coloured hair - take your pick!

Please remember however, we do not allow coloured hair at school so if you do go for colour it needs to be a wash out colour so hair can be back to a natural colour by Monday.

The money raised will go towards trying to keep the costs of busses for trips as low as possible.

    Many thanks,

    Mrs Beard-Robbins

  • Mobile Phones

    Mon 15 Sep 2025

    Mobile Phones

Can I please gently remind you that we do not allow children below Y4 to have mobile phones in school.

Even for children in Y5/6 if they are collected or walk home a small distance with friends there is no need for them to bring a phone.

In a very few cases where a child in Y5/6 walks home a longer way and is not met, we understand you may feel happier if they have a phone. In those cases the phone should be switched off and handed to their teacher until the end of the day.

If a child is found with their phone during the day they will no longer be allowed to bring a phone.

I was concerned last week when I was on the gate at the end of the day. I saw a number of our Y5/6 so preoccupied with their phones as they left they were not paying enough attention to where they were walking and the roads.

We thank you for your support with this matter.

  • Stranger Danger Update

    Thu 11 Sep 2025

    Good afternoon,

We have had a further update from the Police in relation to the incident with a stranger in a local Caerphilly School. We have been given very little other info at the moment. As soon as I know more, I will of course, pass it on.

The update is as follows from police:

Parents to collect children from school where possible this week.
In the event of an incident, children to call 999, get to a safe space and get registration of vehicle if possible from the safe space.

    Many thanks,

    Mrs Beard-Robbins
