Grant Planning 2020-2021

Pupil Deprivation Grant

The school receives a pupil deprivation grant which is related to the number of pupils in the school eligible for free school meals. The school currenlty has approximately 35% of pupils in this category. For the financial year 2020-2021 the school was awarded £69,000 for this grant.

The school undertakes the following activites in order to support pupils facing the challenges of poverty and deprivation:

  • Support staff within Foundation Phase to support teaching and learning
  • An attendace and well-being officer to support familes and learners
  • Literacy and numeracy interventions in KS2 and FP
  • Additional IT equipment to support learning in school and learning at home

Recruit, recover and raise standards

During the financial year 2020-2021 schools received an addtional grant to support the recovery following the substantial period of school closure. Cwmcarn Primary received £9085. This funding was used to employ on a temporary basis, an LSA, for 3 days per week to lead interventions with identifed learners who had not made progress during lockdown and learners we were concerned about. We also used part of this funding to purchase some musical resources 'Uplift' that could be used in Y2-6 and would support pupil well-being during the return to school.

The school's grant plans are scrutinised by the Governing Body, supported by advice from the EAS and monitored by the Local Authority.

Professional Learning Plan 2020-2021

As a school we are committed to professional learning for all our staff and are working towards our school becoming a learning community. We produce a professional learning plan that shows how we plan to spend the money we receive for professional learning.

Professional Learning has evolved at Cwmcarn Primary over the year 2020/2021 due the pandemic and school closures. All Professional Learning has been logged by the Professional Learning Lead (Miss Pyle). There has been a great focus on learning in regards to blended learning, remote learning and live lessons. This is reported on regularly to our Governing Body and the LA and our Challenge Advisor.
