  • Nasal Flu Vaccine at School on Wednesday 18th September

    Fri 06 Sep 2024

    Dear Parent/Guardian,

The school nursing service will visit the school to offer pupils a nasal flu spray vaccine on 18/09/2024
The NHS recommends that your child has a flu vaccination every year.

It’s very important to protect your child from flu to make sure they stay as healthy as possible. The best flu vaccine for most children is a nasal spray. This is the vaccine that will be given on the day.

The online consent form and additional information can be found here: https://linktr.ee/schoolfluab

To help make sure the vaccine is suitable for your child, and they don’t miss out, please take time to read the information and follow the link to complete the electronic consent form as soon as possible, before the planned vaccination date, no later than 48 hours before the above date. Any consent forms submitted after this time may result in your child not receiving their vaccine on the day.
Should you have any difficulties accessing the above link, please contact 01633 431685 for further support.

  • WOW - Walk To School Challenge

    Wed 04 Sep 2024

    Dear parent/carer,
Living Streets’ WOW – the walk to school challenge is back to help encourage as many children as possible to experience the benefits of walking to school. We are one of 170 schools taking part across Wales with thanks to funding from Welsh Government.
As you know, WOW is a pupil-led initiative where children self-report how they get to school every day. If they travel actively (walk/wheel, cycle, scoot or Park and Stride) at least once a week for a month, they get rewarded with a badge. It's that easy!

What are the benefits of walking to school? Children feel happier and healthier, arriving at school refreshed, and ready to learn. Walking also helps to reduce congestion and pollution at the school gates.

What if we can’t walk to school?
If driving, ‘Park and Stride’ to help your child earn their WOW badges. Park at least ten minutes away from the school and walk the remaining journey (the map shows our school’s active travel zone, please park outside of the zone).
If using public transport, hop off at least ten minutes away and walk the rest (recorded as ‘other’ on the WOW Travel Tracker).
Where walking to school isn’t an option, we work with schools to establish a bespoke approach to WOW that works best for their pupils’ needs. If you have any questions on the adaptability of WOW or have suggestions of how we can improve, please email walktoschool@livingstreets.org.uk

    The WOW badges
There are 11 new WOW badges to be earned, one for every month of the school year. This year’s WOW badge theme is Walk with Imagination, with a selection of badges ranging from a Bird's Eye View to Road Surfing up for grabs.
If you have any questions about the programme, or to find more information and useful videos, visit: livingstreets.org.uk/wowlaunch
Let’s swap those school runs for school walks.

    Data provided by Travel Time

Os ydych chi'n defnyddio trafnidiaeth cyhoeddus, dewch oddi wrtho o leiaf ddeng munud i ffwrdd a cherddwch y daith sy’n weddill (i’w gofnodi fel 'arall' ar Traciwr Teithio WOW).
Lle nad yw cerdded i'r ysgol yn opsiwn, rydym yn gweithio gydag ysgolion i sefydlu ffordd o ddarparu WOW sy'n gweithio orau ar gyfer anghenion eu disgyblion. Os oes gennych unrhyw gwestiynau am allu WOW i addasu neu awgrymiadau ar sut y gallwn wella, e-bostiwch walktoschool@livingstreets.org.uk

    Bathodynnau WOW
Mae 11 bathodyn WOW newydd i'w ennill, un am bob mis o'r flwyddyn ysgol. Thema bathodynnau WOW eleni yw Cerdded gyda Dychymyg, gyda detholiad o fathodynnau yn amrywio o Olwg Llygad Aderyn i Syrffio Ffordd i’w ennill.
Os oes gennych unrhyw gwestiynau am y rhaglen, neu i ddod o hyd i fwy o wybodaeth a fideos defnyddiol, ymwelwch a: livingstreets.org.uk/wowlaunch

    Social Media Warning.

Please find below a message from Mandy Morris - Education Safeguarding Coordinator, Caerphilly County Borough Council.

"Please can I bring your attention to the below, and remind parents to remain vigilant throughout the summer holidays. Remind them to continue to check/monitor their children’s mobile phones and other devices, such as gaming machines, to ensure what they are playing and whom they are interacting with, are safe. Parents need to contact Police/101 to report any concerns. "

Below are some useful links / resources.

This collection of guides provides parents and carers with key information about the most popular social media and gaming apps children and young people are using today.

    WhatsApp
Thousands of children across the region have been targeted…..children’s names have repeatedly been to added to a malicious WhatsApp group which promotes self harm, sexual violence and racism. As soon as they remove their names, their names are re-appear almost instantly.

    Again contact Police/101 to report.
