  • Will school be open or closed on Monday 11th December?

    Sun 10 Dec 2017

I'm sure many of you, having seen the weather are wondering whether school will be open tomorrow.

We will post on this website by 7.30am at the latest as soon as a decision has been made.

The final decision is made by the Headteacher, together with the Chair of Governors and the Caretaker.

There are lots of things taken into account before deciding whether it is safe to open.

    • The first thing we always consider is safety. We have to decide if the school site is safe for both children and staff and that the building is warm enough with the heating working properly. The caretaker notifies the Head about this as soon as possible on the day in question.
    • Secondly, we have to consider if staff can get to school. There can be a situation where the site in Cwmcarn is safe and the building is warm, but not enough staff can get to school to supervise the children. At Cwmcarn we have teachers who live in Bargoed, Cardiff, Aberdare, Cwmbran Newport etc We need to make sure staff can get to school safely in order to open. We would not expect staff to make any dangerous journeys.
    • Thirdly we take advice from the local authority on the likelihood of more snow during the school day and what advice they have had regarding safety.

School closure is never a decision taken lightly, but we must put children and staff safety first.

  • Kindess at Christmas

Fri 08 Dec 2017 Mrs Robbins

As a school we have decided to spread some kindness at Christmas. These lovely ideas have come from our children.

KS2 will be bringing in things to help the homeless and FP will be collecting 5p and 10p to buy pens and pencils for children in our link school in Uganda. All the pupils have had a letter about this and the letters have been saved on our website.

Please note that both these initiatives are voluntary so please don't feel like you have to donate. We just thought it would be lovely to follow up on our children's ideas.

  • Teacher Training

Fri 27 Oct 2017 Mrs Robbins

The school will be closed to pupils on Monday November 27th for teacher training.

We will remind you again after half term when a newsletter will be coming home.

  • Parent Consultations

Fri 27 Oct 2017 Mrs Robbins

Thank you so much for all your support with Parent Consultations, the turnout this year was excellent. We are still counting up the exact figures but initially it looks like over 90% of parents came to see us. This really is excellent.

We will be writing to all parents who didn't attend to see if we can try again after half term as the link between home and school is so important.

  • Y3/4 Class Assemblies

Wed 25 Oct 2017 Mrs Robbins

    Dear parents,

We have decided to postpone Y3/4 Class Assemblies until the New Year.

Y3/4 will be putting on a Christmas Concert and so they will be busy preparing for that after half term.

The Class Assemblies will go ahead, but in the Spring Term.

    Thank you!

  • Badminton Club Week 1

Tue 19 Sep 2017 Mrs Robbins
We had our first badminton club today. We are following a worldwide programme called Shuttle Time!  There's no better feedback than from the pupils who all left with a smiley face and one pupil described the club as 'epic'!
