Congratulations Years 5 and 6! All your hard work paid off and both performances of Olivia! were outstanding!
The Year 6 concert was also amazing and a huge thank you must again go to Mrs Jenkins for creating so many memories on disc for the children; it takes a huge amount of time and effort to create such wonderful gifts and we are incredibly grateful for Mrs Jenkins' ICT skills!
A special thank you must also go to Year 6 for surprising Mrs Painter and Miss Vaughan with such a wonderfully thoughtful and unique gift, we were incredibly touched and will miss you all. Diolch yn fawr.
Efa is off to Malta tomorrow to compete with her gymnastics club Somersault on Friday and Saturday.
Grace, Libby and Maddie are also off to Italy to compete with their club Newport Acro.
GOOD LUCK GIRLS! We can't wait to find out how you all got on.
From everyone in Dosbarth Deg.
Dosbarth Deg will be practising for sports day this week. Please ensure your child has their PE kit, including trainers.
This afternoon Dosbarth Deg created freeze frames to show the moment when Henry VIII's advisor informed Anne Boleyn that she had been found guilty of being unfaithful and would be beheaded!
We then wrote what we assumed the characters would be saying, thinking and feeling.
Great work Dosbarth Deg!
Morning! Hope you all had a lovely half term.
Dosbarth Deg will be continuing the topic of Roses and Royals to the end of this year. We still have much to learn about The Tudors and will also be working hard with our end of year production.
Miles and Leigh returned this afternoon, we were all so happy to see them! We used the iPads and the Pyka Loop app to go on a Secret Sound Hunt around the school. We had to be silent for a lot of the afternoon and were only allowed to communicate using whiteboards; we were so good at this that Miss Vaughan and Miss Manning are considering implementing this rule for the rest of the term! We found so many amazing sounds we didn't know were around the school and created pieces of music from them.
Check out the photos below to see how much fun we had...
UpBeat are visiting us again tomorrow afternoon! (Wednesday 10th May)
Please bring your headphones to school if you have any. They will be kept safe and you will only be using them for a sound hunt with Miles and Leigh.
Yesterday we went to visit Tretower Court and Castle. Although it was very, very, very cold we had a fabulous time!
We learned a lot from our Steward who gave us a guided tour around Lord Vaughan's manor and auditioned us for jobs in the kitchen and the hall. The steward tested our marzipan making skills and place setting abilities and told us we were one of the best groups he'd seen! (Yes, this means we are more than capable of setting the table at home now!)
We also received a tour of the castle, researched artefacts, designed our own family crest and had a go at archery!
Check out the photos below to see how much fun we had...
After Easter Dosbarth Deg will be exploring how the Tudors contributed to Welsh history as we know it.
What can you find out in preparation for our new topic? What would you like to find out?
Bring your ideas and findings to school next term and help us investigate!
Dosbarth Deg has had a beastly couple of days!
We spent Tuesday exploring Cwmcarn Forest Drive with our guide Martin; we investigated different mini beasts and habitats which has helped us learn a lot more about our topic, it was great to see lots of insects up close!
Today we walked down to Feeder Row and set up camp to charm the worms in the field. We had a great time dancing around to cause vibrations in order to entice the worms to the surface!
Take a look at the photos below to see how much fun we had!
Miss Vaughan's class have been working hard on a Thursday afternoon to improve their Science skills with Mrs Robbins. They have learnt about renewable and non-renewable energy, conductors and insulators and how plugs work.
This afternoon (16th February) they completed investigations into series and parallel circuits and how they could change the brightness of a bulb.
They were amazing!
Year Six went to Blackwood Rugby Club today to visit Crucial Crew and learn about different aspects of Health and Safety. Despite the description, this was an afternoon of fun and laughter; the staff there were amazing and the children had a great time - Check out the gallery for more photos!
Our first week back has been very entertaining!
We have designed and coloured our Mexican skulls, listened to a Mexican piece called "Jarabe Tapatio" to create a graphic score and finished by learning the Mexican Hat Dance. The dance was so enjoyable we even received a visit from a very Mexican looking Mrs Reardon, sombrero and all. Scroll down to see the video evidence!
Due to changes in the timetable, our PE session has changed to a Friday afternoon.
Please ensure your kit is in school by 6th January.
We will be starting 2017 by exploring this unique Country, from its towering temples and stunning geography to its pulsing rhythms and fun packed festivals.
Visit us in January to see how bright and colourful 2017 will be for Dosbarth Deg!
Today was our last UpBeat session with Miles and Leigh 😟
We spent this afternoon setting up for our showcase; deciding on lighting, positioning and jobs for us all.
Thank you so much to those of you who were able to spend time listening to and watching our pieces of work. We thoroughly enjoyed showcasing our talents!
We have had the best time learning how to use Pyka_loop, ArtRage and iMovie and have learned so many new skills this term.
Finally, thank you to Miles and Leigh for sharing their expertise and helping us to improve our skills and gain in confidence.
We split into two teams this afternoon; The Animation Team and The Film production Crew. We have been incredibly busy all afternoon and can't wait for you to see what we've prepared for next Thursday!
We have one more production session before we present our video and art work next week.
We've loved our UpBeat sessions and are so excited to show off our new skills!
What an amazing end to an amazing week!
Our Solar Sensations flew off the stall and everyone said they tasted great!
Tune into Children in Need tonight to see how much we raised!
Today we finished off Enterprise Week beautifully! We have packaged all of our Solar Sensations and set up our stall ready to make lots of money for Children in Need!
We all enjoyed Enterprise Week, especially the manufacturing and the blind taste test!
Another impressive morning at U.F.Woahs! HQ.
We packaged our Solar Sensations and finished off the displays and everything looks amazing!
We can't wait to see you all at 3:15 on Friday!
We have had a very productive day at U.F.Woahs! HQ. The manufacturing process ensured our problem solving skills were put to good use this morning but went smoothly this afternoon and we can't wait for you to see the end result.
We also designed and created items for display purposes which will ensure people come from far and wide to buy our Solar Sensations!
We've had another great day during Enterprise Week!
Having set ourselves up into departments and moving the classroom around, we started this morning ready for work!
We looked at different TV adverts and identified the persuasive language and gimmicks they used to make them so memorable, writing a list of criteria for us to follow.
We carried out a blind test to identify the tastiest chocolate from a range of prices which will help us to work out the costings tomorrow morning.
Our Finance team carried out some market research on the parents who visited U.F.Woahs! Head Office this afternoon and we now have enough feedback to successfully advertise and sell our products.
We're really looking forward to the manufacturing process tomorrow!
Please look at the photos below to see how much fun we've been having!
Today Dosbarth Deg met Miles and Leigh. We've had an absolutely amazing afternoon where we watched some examples of Pyka_'s work and discussed animations, videos and creative learning.
Over the next six weeks we will be learning many different skills before showing off our creations with a showcase in the Junior hall. We are so excited!
Our topic this term is Stargazers. We will take on the greatest adventure that humankind has ever undertaken! We will navigate beyond the Sun, journey through space and investigate our Solar System! We will look at the moon, investigate the planets and work scientifically to investigate gravity. We are looking forward to exploring all aspects of Space. Are we alone...?
This month there are several opportunities to spot the International Space Station as they continue their epic journey of discovery from Space. Click on the link below to find out more:
Also this term, Dosbarth Deg are incredibly lucky to be taking part in an iPad project with UpBeat Music and Arts. We will be updating the website with pictures and videos but in the meantime, click on UpBeat's link to get an idea of the amazing time we will have in the run up to Christmas!
Can I remind Class 10 that our PE day is Thursday. Please ensure you have your PE kit in school before then. We have been working well together to create some amazing gymnastic routines and it has been a shame to see some members of the class forgetting their kit.
Diolch yn fawr
Our topic this term is Pits and Ponies and we're loving every moment of it so far!
We have been to Big Bit in Blaenavon and listened carefully to the ex miners who shared their experiences with us, as well as travelling 90m deep into the mine to wander around underground - It was fascinating!
We also wandered through a simulation which recreated the sounds of the mines when they were working, they must have been incredibly noisy!
Please look through the photos of our trip below to see how much fun we had!
